Liverpool have reportedly turned down an £8.5m bid for Danish defender Daniel Agger from Italian giants AC Milan.

Carlo Ancelotti is desperate to bolster his ailing defence with Alessandro Nesta and Paolo Maldini suffering the effect of ageing limbs and squad member Philippe Senderos failing to impress.

24-year-old Agger arrived at Liverpool in 2006 and has been in and out of the line-up since that time, often taking the place of the injured Martin Skrtel this season. Despite not being guaranteed first team minutes on a weekly basis it is thought that Rafa Benitez would rather keep hold of his burgeoning star knowing that the challenge for honours on three fronts will need as many talents as possible.

The San Siro outfit are also keeping tabs on French internationals Philippe Mexes and William Gallas according to reports in Italy.
